What is the Ackerley Series?
Ackerley is a small town in the ranchlands of northern California. The Ackerley Series revolves around the Armstrong Ranch, a homestead a few miles out of town. Marlin Armstrong is a lieutenant on the Ackerley Police Force. He lost his wife in 2004 and has three kids - Ashlyn, Titus, and Star. Juniper rents the guesthouse and cooks for the family as part of her rent. She also works as a waitress at the local diner. They are always ready to welcome weary visitors to the ranch. Regardless of how destitute he or she is or what his or her background is, no one is ever turned away.

Spies in Ackerley?
What are spies doing in the ranchlands of northern California? That's what Guy Abrams is sent to Ackerley to find out. Finding a spy among all the farmers, ranchers, and residents of the small towns on a strip of rural road between Weed and Yreka isn't as easy as Guy had thought it would be. As he gets more information about the person he's looking for, he finds it pointing more and more to the one person that he doesn't want it to be, thereby clouding his judgement and leading him into a situation that could result in his death.
Dax and Aster, a young couple with a baby, had left Ackerley over a year earlier to escape the wrath of Aster's father, Dougal. Destitute, they return. Dougal is willing to take Aster and the baby in while Dax tries to find a job and a place to stay. During that time, Dougal works to break up Dax and Aster's marriage. Although Dax is aware of that, he has no ide how far Dougal will go to keep him away from Aster.
Marlin takes his job as lieutenant of the Ackerley Police Force very seriously. If something doesn't seem right, he tries to ferret out the problem and fix it.
